Journal of Business Application (JBA) operates under a gold open access model. Unlike traditional journals that require authors to transfer copyright to the publisher, JBA believes that authors should retain ownership of their intellectual property.

Therefore, JBA does not require copyright transfer from authors. Authors retain full copyright over their work and grant the journal a non-exclusive right to publish their article under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license.

Formal Copyright Statement:

"Authors who publish with Journal of Business Application retain copyright and grant the journal the right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license that allows others to share and adapt the work with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication in this journal."

What Authors Retain

What is a Non-Exclusive License?

A non-exclusive license means that authors grant JBA the right to publish their work, but they are free to publish the same work elsewhere, in any form, at any time, without seeking permission from the journal. For example, authors may:

  • Include the article in a book or anthology they edit or author
  • Post the article on their personal or institutional website
  • Deposit the article in any repository (institutional, subject-based, etc.)
  • Use the article for teaching, presentations, or grant applications

E. PUBLISHER'S RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the non-exclusive license granted by authors, the publisher (Universitas Dr. Djar Wattiheluw) has the right and responsibility to:

Publish and Disseminate

Publish the article in all formats (PDF, HTML, XML) and make it available on the journal website.

Register DOI

Assign and register a Crossref DOI for each article for permanent identification.

Indexing

Submit metadata to indexing databases (Google Scholar, DOAJ, SINTA, etc.) for maximum visibility.

Preservation

Ensure long-term digital preservation through LOCKSS, PKP PN, and other archiving services.

License Enforcement

Ensure that the CC BY 4.0 license terms are respected and address any violations.

Corrections and Retractions

Manage post-publication corrections, errata, and retractions according to COPE guidelines.

F. THIRD-PARTY CONTENT AND PERMISSIONS

If a manuscript includes material (figures, tables, text excerpts, etc.) that is not original to the authors and is protected by copyright, authors are responsible for:

  • Identifying all third-party content clearly in the manuscript
  • Obtaining written permission from the copyright holder to reproduce the material under the CC BY 4.0 license

H. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

❓ Do I need to sign a copyright transfer agreement?

No. JBA does not require copyright transfer. Authors retain full copyright. You will only be asked to confirm that you agree to publish under the CC BY 4.0 license.

❓ Can I post my article on my personal website after publication?

Yes, immediately. There is no embargo period. You may post the published PDF, the final accepted version, or any other version on your website, institutional repository, or anywhere else.

❓ Can I use my article in my thesis or dissertation?

Yes. You retain full rights to include your article in your thesis or dissertation. We recommend citing the journal publication.

❓ Can others use figures from my article without asking me?

Yes, as long as they properly cite your article as the source. This is permitted by the CC BY 4.0 license. You do not need to grant individual permissions.

❓ What if I want to publish my article in a book or as a book chapter?
